1 Million Tons of Oil Shale

A ton of oil shale contains roughly 350 kilograms of organic matter, 550 kilograms of various minerals and 100 kilograms of water. Refining oil shale produces a broad spectrum of valuable products, spent shale and semi-coke.

VKG refines oil shale through coproduction of oil, energy and heat. This means that the shale gas produced in shale fuel oil production is used to produce power and heat as well as industrial vapour. Additionally, processing shale fuel oil produces various coke products, and we derive high-purity unique fine chemicals and other oil shale chemical products from the phenolic water produced in the course of shale fuel oil production.
